Do you feel like Facebook knows you better than you know yourself? Have you Googled a product and now you see it as you scroll through your Facebook news feed? This is not a coincidence. Facebook is collecting data about you. New policy guides are collecting content that is unique to each user every time you: like and share a post, upload a photo and tag the location, listen to your favorite music, and communicate with your friends. However, Facebook is making some changes, letting users decide whether to share political or religious information and if they want to allow targeted ads. The goal of the new data policy updates is to create a personalized experience without infringing on your privacy and personal beliefs.
“It’s important to show people in black and white how our products work – it’s one of the ways people can make informed decisions about their privacy. So we’re proposing updates to our terms of service that include our commitments to everyone using Facebook. We explain the services we offer in language that’s easier to read. We’re also updating our data policy to better spell out what data we collect and how we use it in Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and other products.”
– Erin Egan, VP and Chief Privacy Officer and Ashlie Beringer, VP and Deputy General Counsel
Facebook is also working to cut back on fake news which you can read more about here.
Say goodbye to API! Instagram will be shutting down part of the old application program interface, effective immediately. So, what does this mean for die-hard grammers? With the old API scheduled for depreciation, developers will have a harder time accessing and pulling users’ data, making this popular platform better and more safe. #bettersafethansorry
